For Christmas recycling in Tonbridge & Malling (TMBC), you can recycle cardboard, paper wrapping (no glitter/foil), cards (no glitter), glass bottles/jars, plastic pots/tubs, tins/cans, clean foil, and food waste in your food caddy, but keep glittery items, plastic bags, polystyrene, and non-recyclable wrapping paper in your black bin. Flatten large boxes and put them out on collection day or use them as a container for extra paper/card.
What to Recycle (Green Box/Caddy):
Paper & Card: Cardboard boxes (flattened), paper wrapping (remove tape/ribbons), Christmas cards (no glitter/foil), newspapers, magazines.
Food Waste: Leftovers, bones, scraps in your food caddy (orange lid).
Glass: Bottles and jars (rinse, keep lids on or recycle separately if specified).
Plastics: Bottles, pots, tubs (rinse).
Metals: Tins, cans, sweet/biscuit tins, clean foil.
What to Put in Your Black Bin (General Waste):
Non-Recyclable Wrapping: Foil, glittery wrapping paper, cellophane, plastic-based wrapping.
Decorations: Plastic/ceramic tree ornaments, ribbons, bows, sticky tape.
Other: Polystyrene, plastic bags.
Special Items:
Christmas Trees: Take them to a Kent County Council Household Waste Recycling Centre(HWRC) for recycling.
Key Tips:
Rinse: Rinse food/drink containers before recycling.
Check Labels: Ensure items are clean and dry where possible.
Flatten Boxes: Helps save space in the bin.
